Arizona tackles energy cutoffs; meals security an necessary challenge

Realizing how dangerous, and even lethal, excessive warmth might be, the Arizona Company Fee final month accepted tentative guidelines that will defend clients who haven’t paid their payments from having their electrical energy disconnected during times of utmost warmth or chilly.

The draft guidelines, which have been accepted 3-2, added a temperature threshold of 95 levels to the present calendar-based moratorium, which extends from June 1  to Oct. 15.

The emergency calendar-based shutoff ban was adopted in June 2019, following the heat-related loss of life of an Arizona Public Service Co. buyer whose energy had been turned off for nonpayment.
